Chemistry Labs

Purpose of Chemistry Laboratory & Precautions.

Chemistry Lab

Chemistry is the scientific discipline involved with elements and compounds composed of atoms, molecules and ions, their composition, structure, properties, behavior and the changes they undergo during a reaction with other substances.Chemistry addresses topics such as how atoms and molecules interact via chemical bonds to form new chemical compounds.

Importance of chemistry for students.

Everything is made of chemicals. Many of the changes we observe in the world around we see that caused by chemical reactions. Chemistry is very important because it helps us to know the composition, structure& changes of matter. All the matters are made up of chemistry. In our every day life various chemicals are being used in various from, some of those are being used as food, some of those used as cleansing agents etc.

CHEMISTRY LABORATORY

At every stage in life, we are connected to different aspects of chemistry directly or indirectly. It encircles a variety of fields –agriculture, food, medicine, fertilisers, polymers, metals etc. Thus, the knowledge of chemistry is useful in different aspects of human life.

Our chemistry lab aims to

  • - show our students the excitement of science.
  • - raise the attainment in science by supporting the school curriculum.
  • - inspire our students to become the scientists of the future.
  • Our chemistry lab is well equipped with chemicals and other apparatus to cater the needs of all the students up to class XII. Students start using the chemistry lab from class VI onward. They show great enthusiasm in using chemicals and perform hands on experiments. An additional advantage of our lab, it contains an Educomp smart board with real and animated versions of different experiments. It is also supported by a virtual lab which is used to conduct experiments on the board and observe the reactions. The lab has an excellent safety system with fire extinguishers and a shower cum eye washer equipment.

The lab inculcates curiosity and inquisitiveness in students. It plays a very important role in developing a scientific temperament in our students.

    Safety Rules in chemistry laboratory:-

  • You must wear a lab coat (and do it up) in all Chemistry labs.
  • Footwear must cover complete foot and heel (sandals, baby dolls, ballet flats, mules, open-toed footwear, etc. are not allowed).
  • You must wear long pants (no shorts, capris, skirts, or dresses).
  • Wash your hands before you leave the lab.
  • Do not remove chemicals or equipment from the lab except when required to do so for analysis.
  • Please notify your LA of any serious medical conditions.
  • Do not wear earbuds or earphones while in the lab.
  • Do not pipette with your mouth.
  • Be extremely careful when transferring, distilling or re fluxing volatile liquids.
  • Do not keep used chemicals back to the stock container.
  • Do not tap flasks under vacuum.
  • Do not heat, measure or mix any chemicals in front of your face.
  • Never heat a closed system – it will act as a bomb!
  • Never pour water into concentrated acid. Pour acid slowly into water, stirring constantly. Mixing acid with water is often exothermic.
  • Concentrated acids and bases are stored in the fume hood. Do not carry them to your bench.
